ACTA is celebrating Travel Agent Day beginning May 6, and continuing through the month of May to "thank” travel agents for all the hours of work and determination that they put in to caring for the traveling public.

ACTA is asking members and industry allies to use Travel Agent Day to have some fun while building awareness and to educate the traveling public, policymakers and the media on the value that Travel Agents contribute to the travel ecosystem.

Club Med

Club Med is celebrating Travel Advisor Appreciation Day (May 6) by honoring the dedication and professionalism of its valued travel partners with a month-long event, for the 5th year in a row.

“In this particular context, it is vitally important for us to thank and support the travel advisors. We take all opportunities to stay connected with our community of valued travel partners – even if only digitally, as we have had to adapt to the current reality - for the Travel Advisor Appreciation Month. We have always worked hand in hand and will continue to do so more than ever.” explains Jacinda Lowry, national sales director. 

Introduced by a creative video of the sales teams with a strong support message, the goal of Club Med’s Travel Advisor Month is to recognize the expertise of the advisors that Club Med interacts with every day, and to provide them with entertaining challenges and games to continue to develop their skills, but above all, to reward them for their involvement and their dedication to their work.

Throughout the month of May, travel advisors are invited to join the dedicated Facebook group for Canadian Travel Advisors Club Med Janet Martin and Samantha Gillingham, Amazing you ! where fun but educational weekly challenges will be posted.

Starting Wednesday, May 6, a new challenge will be unveiled every Wednesday for 4 weeks, and advisors will have until the following Tuesday to participate and try to win cash rewards!

Each week, Club Med will offer travel advisors the opportunity to win cash rewards of $100, for 4 weeks. At the end of the month, the advisors that participated in the most challenges will be entered into a draw for the grand prize: a spot at the opening event of the new Club Med Québec Charlevoix, set to open in December 2021!

In appreciation of all superhero travel agents, Contiki will be hosting four online giveaways on the Travel Agents Facebook group starting at 12:00 p.m. EST and every hour until 4:00 pm EST on May 6, 2020. 

To enter one of these giveaways, agents are invited to answer the question being asked each hour. If the answer is correct, agents become eligible to win travel gift cards for future travel. Intrepid Travel

On the heels of its new #BeTogether campaign, Intrepid Travel has penned a letter to its travel agent partners.

"Today is a day we celebrate travel agents all over the world, so we wanted to take the opportunity to express our gratitude for all the work that you do. We know that creating the best travel experiences for your clients is not always an easy job, although you make it seem so effortless," the letter begins.

Jamaica Tourist Board

In honour of Travel Agent Day on May 6th, the JTB will show its appreciation and give back to Jamaica travel specialists in Canada and the U.S. in a meaningful way.

In Canada, the JTB is giving away Tim Hortons gift cards to travel specialists based in that market. The first 300 Canadian agents to register at will receive a $10 gift card via email.

“We treasure the remarkable relationship with our travel specialists who continue to play an important part in our success as a sought-after vacation destination,” said Donnie Dawson, deputy director of tourism, Sales, Jamaica Tourist Board. “This initiative is just one tangible way in which we can express our gratitude to our agents especially during what has been a most challenging period for the global travel industry.”

In addition to the Travel Agent Day giveaway, the JTB has been providing support to keep agents engaged and updated on the product during this period of uncertainty, including hosting a number of webinars and sponsored training sessions, virtual sales calls and weekly scavenger-hunt inspired trivia games.

More than 40,000 travel specialists have been trained as part of Jamaica’s A One Love Rewards Program, which serves as a dedicated training platform for the travel agent community to become certified experts on the destination. The program guides agents through vibrant, picturesque online pages that provide insider knowledge about the island. In 2019, the top travel specialists booked a total of 174,837 room nights, collectively for the year.

Royal Irish Tours

To celebrate Travel Agent Day, the Royal Irish Tours (RIT) team have made a quirky ‘thank you’ video for travel advisors, which includes a hurling stick (Gaelic sport), some good catching skills, and you guessed it, a few Irish beers! 

The video was made to thank their travel agent friends across Canada for all they do for their clients, and for their continued support of RIT over the years.

The video begins with Jonathan Sargeant, RIT’s sales manager thanking agents (from his kitchen bar!) before saying ‘cheers’ and throwing a can of Guinness out of shot which is caught by one his colleagues at home in their own living room!

The thank you’s continue and the video ends with a nice message from Ian Duffy, Founder and President of RIT at his home Irish bar!

Windstar Cruises

Windstar Cruises is making a major change to its travel agent commission policy as well as announcing the return of a favorite promotion for travel advisors. Both announcements are timed to honor National Travel and Tourism Week and National Travel Advisor Day.

Windstar Cruises’ Travel Assurance Booking Policy already allows travelers to cancel their cruise up to 15 days prior to departure and receive a 100 percent future cruise credit to be used on all sailings through December 31, 2021. Starting immediately, however, Windstar is changing its policy to pay agent commissions on all future cruise credits, recognizing that far more cruises have been cancelled than in the past.

“Travel Advisors have always been important partners of Xanterra Travel Collection,” said Xanterra and Windstar Cruises CEO Andrew Todd. “A few years ago, Windstar Cruises introduced Star Promise – our commitment to travel advisors. In keeping with that pledge, it is important to update our policy to recognize the hard work and support of our travel advisor partners.”

In addition to the commission change, Windstar is pleased to announce the return of its most popular promotion for travel advisors – the “Sell 3, Sail Free” program, which will begin on May 18th.

Travel advisors must sell three staterooms, and once fully deposited, the advisor (and a guest) sail for free on a cruise departing by April 30th, 2021. Travel advisors will be confirmed 60 days out based on availability and will pay only taxes, fees, and port expenses, plus gratuities.
