Sunwing buys resort in Tobago: report

Sunwing Travel Group has purchased the Turtle Beach Hotel in Tobago and has renamed it Starfish Resort, according to a report published by the Trinidad Express, a daily newspaper in Trinidad and Tobago. 

The story sources Tobago House of Assembly Chief Secretary Ancil Dennis, who revealed the news during a virtual media conference on Saturday (Oct 10th).

"Sunwing took over the Turtle Beach hotel. They have already purchased it," Dennis was quoted as saying in the story. 

Sunwing operated weekly direct flights to Tobago from Toronto before Trinidad and Tobago closed its borders on March 23rd.

Dennis also said on Saturday that prior to the pandemic, there were plans were in place for the Magdalena Grand Beach and Golf Resort to be sold to the Apple Leisure Group.

He told media that “those developments have significantly slowed" due to the pandemic and border closures. 

Apple Leisure Group is the parent company for resort and brand management company AMResorts.
