Royal Irish Tours (RIT) has made the "difficult decision" to postpone its coach and sightseeing tours until April 2021, the company announced recently.
In a message posted to the tour operator's website on Aug. 4th, Ian Duffy, founder and president, explained how, in February, the company's team on the ground was "working hard to ensure another wonderful year of tours and memorable vacations" in Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales.
"Unfortunately, as you are all aware, things have changed significantly since then and we have pushed back the start of our touring season several times," Duffy wrote. "After much deliberation and discussion, we have now made the difficult decision to postpone our coach and sightseeing tours until April 2021. This has not been an easy decision for us, but we feel it is the right one at this time."
Duffy goes on to explain how the safety and enjoyment of guests "have always been paramount."
"...and we feel that this year we cannot deliver on these two essential aspects of our tours.," wrote Duffy. "There is a lot of uncertainty around group sizes and social distance protocols as well as restrictions on group sizes in dining rooms, bars and visitor attractions."
He thanked customers for their support and noted that the company will spend this time "preparing for the future, and we are looking ahead and focusing on 2021."
LOOKING AHEAD TO 2021
RIT has made some changes and new additions to its tours through Ireland, Scotland, England or Wales.
Good to go in COVID-safe destinations
The Republic of Ireland and the UK have introduced a standard set of criteria to ensure the tourism sector continues to operate safely and respectfully in these times.
RIT has invested in staff training and in refitting its coaches to ensure they are safe to travel on given the new protocols.
It will also now only work with hotels, attractions, restaurants and other tourism businesses who have received the ‘We’re Good to Go’ mark (UK) and the COVID-19 Safety Charter (Ireland) in their respective country.
Flexible booking policy
RIT has updated its terms and conditions to allow flexibility when booking a vacation with RIT.
Once you book and deposit with RIT, you can now change your departure date or tour for any reason up to 30 days prior to departure.
The deposit is transferable to another date within 18 months of the initially scheduled trip departure date. Valid for new bookings only made after August 3rd, 2020.
Smaller groups and updated coaches
RIT's coach tour groups have never been too big, with a maximum of 38 guests. However, for 2021, it will be reducing our group sizes significantly. Their first-class coach tours will now operate with a maximum of 30 guests on a full size coach, including many more tours operating with a max of 16 guests.
