After The Travel Corporation broke the news about the recent appointment of Carl Garbig last Friday (Jan. 4), it's evident that African Travel, Inc. is making its way north of the border to saturate the Canadian market with more Africa travel product.
The U.S.-based company, operating for more than 40 years, specializes in experiential travel to Africa and runs trips in 14 countries. As Canada's very first director of sales, Garbig, who first began representing The Travel Corporation's African brands back in 2011, has just the expertise and passion required to be an ambassador for Canada, where the demand for travel to Africa is constantly growing.
New to selling Africa? No problem!
"With the number of inquiries received from the Canadian market and the need to meet the demand for travel to Africa, African Travel, Inc. identified the need for growth," said Sherwin Banda, president of African Travel, Inc. in an exclusive interview with PAX. "Given our well-established relationships with our travel partners and the need to service their business, [we] created the need in our business to create this position for Carl."
According to Banda, as interest and demand continue to stem from North America, the company will definitely look to add new destinations and experiences throughout the continent to meet the needs of North American travellers.
"Africa is a year-round destination for Canadians, and I look forward to working with all agents to assist in developing their Africa business," Garbig said. "With the substantial growth to African safari destinations for Canadian travellers, being new in selling Africa is not a great issue. We look forward to meeting with our trade partners to discuss their own business goals and to provide comprehensive and effective solutions for success, because Africa is great business."

African Travel, Inc.’s business is 100 per cent driven through its agency partnerships, which means the organization currently works with preferred partners who are present in both the USA and Canada.
"As sales support has continued to grow in Canada, this has warranted African Travel, Inc.’s decision to provide local support to assist our loyal Canadian partners in growing their Africa business," Garbig said. "We have long been established with the travel trade partners given our relationships with the major consortiums. We have a more focused approach in Canada to support the needs of our existing relationships in order to grow our business north of the border."
African Travel, Inc. pays at source commissions on all trips. Departures from Canadian gateways to South Africa are priced in CAD including air-inclusive packages, land packages, FIT’s, and groups (which may also be costed as net pricing). Departures from Canadian gateways to all other destinations are costed in USD.
Starting the new year off on a high note, African Travel, Inc. is also sending six of its top-selling advisors on a luxurious six-night trip to South Africa in 2019. The lucky travel advisors awarded the President’s Top Producers Award will comprise African Travel’s top five producers with the highest revenue, plus the advisor with the most improved year-over-year growth.
"Our calculations will be based on client bookings between December 2018 and May 2019, for guests traveling between January 2019 and March 2020," Garbig explained.
