Where do you live? Toronto

How long have you been a travel agent? I've been in the industry 21 years.

What is your specialty? I specialize in customized luxury travel, leisure groups and vacation packages.

What do you love most about being a travel agent?

The one thing I love most are the people I speak with. I've always said we're in the "people pleasing" business. I enjoy coordinating the logistics behind everyone's dream vacation. Being in this industry allows me to combine education and love for travel.

What's one travel trend you've noticed as of late?

Statistically speaking, prices tend to rise higher while inventory becomes scarce as travel dates approach. Try and secure your space early to guarantee your price and product of choice.

Over the years, how have you had to adapt to changes taking place in the industry?

Education and embracing change are key elements to success.  Due to innovation, we have full audio/video conference webinars to keep us up to date. Technology is more accessible now than it has ever been.  This enables a smoother interaction with clients.

Of all the bookings you’ve made, which itinerary and/or travel package are you most proud of?

The most memorable vacation I coordinated was a marriage proposal between my client and his fiancee in Maui, Hawaii.  I had arranged for his proposal to be customized on M&Ms chocolate candy. Everything was perfect until she opened up the bag and began eating the M&Ms. The inscription started rubbing off on her hands (because it was melting) and she continued to eat the candy. Upon following up, I mentioned to my client that M&Ms were supposed to melt in your mouth, not in your hand.

What's your number one piece of advice to other travel agents?

Love what you do. Smile.  Be patient and humble.
