Don’t be fooled by the sober exterior of The Grand at Moon Palace in Cancun, the newest section of the Palace Resorts Moon Palace megacomplex. Once you push open the doors, you get the full view…
From the floor to the ceiling, to the left or right, opulence is everywhere; and this is only the hotel lobby. It is here that we utter our first ‘wow,’ as soon as our eyes land on the Lobby Bar.
Featuring an enormous five-tonne blown glass structure, coming straight from the Czech Republic, the place is a perfect glimpse of what awaits us at The Grand at Moon Palace: luxury in abundance.
This abundance is found in each of the 1,316 rooms at the new complex; not in the decoration, somewhat subdued this time, but rather, on the side of the facilities and services.
The rooms are very large and well-furnished, with a whirlpool for two people, extremely comfortable beds, an oversized smart television, a Lavazza coffee machine, a daily minibar, a premium liqueur bar, CHI bath products, air conditioning, and even an office with the necessary connections if ever the desire to work takes hold… in truth, it becomes difficult to ask for more, especially with 24-hour service in the room and unfaltering WiFi connectivity.
For our part, we were accommodated in one of the 34 swim-up suites on the site, which means that in addition to all of this and our terrace, we also had access to the private pool reserved for the rooms at the bottom of our building… a delight for nighttime dips!
Ideal for eating well
Eventually, the Grand at Moon Palace will offer ten restaurants. We use the future tense here because all of these were not yet finished during our visits. But those already in operation left a very good impression.
The Grand Buffet shows an excellent variety in the choices offered, but the specialty restaurants, in particular, are the ones that stand out.
The décor of the restaurants provided a perfect echo to the richness of the interiors of the Grand at Moon Palace; the food, too, was superb, at least in those that we tested.
This was the case for the Jade, and its Asian cuisine; the Lebanese restaurant, Habibi; JC Steakhouse; Chateau, an ode to French cuisine; Tavola and its pizzas; Tapas & Vino, combining exquisite bites with glasses of good wine.
Other more common options are also available, such as the Caribbean restaurant or the Los Tacos by the pool. In addition, if you add the options of the neighbouring sections, there are 24 restaurants available for visitors to The Grand at Moon Palace… so many options it’s difficult to choose!
A ton of activities per square foot
Nine swimming pools, seven bars, 10 restaurants, an impressive park with slides, a Playroom for children (with climbing frames, bumper cars, mazes and more) and a teenager’s salon, a wellness centre with the latest trends in fitness, a sports bar and bowling alley, a Beach Club, a luxurious 77,000 sq. ft. spa, a nightclub… the list of amenities seems endless.
And upon finding out that guests at The Grand at Moon Palace can also enjoy the facilities of the adjacent sections of the complex, the Nizuc and the Sunrise – starting with the golf course or the flowrider – we knew that we would have to return to the Moon Palace to be able to experience all of its nuances.
Take note that the new section of the Moon Palace is very large. A well-thought-out bicycle service, however, can tame the size of the Grand at Moon Palace, if one is not patient enough to wait for service vehicles.
And the beach?
This is perhaps one of the least impressive places in the new section. The sand, of course, is very beautiful, of a decidedly white colour; the vegetation covering the palace gives the area a very pleasant, not to mention relaxing, tropical atmosphere.
On the other hand, the sea is much more turbid than in other places around Cancun; the water here loses its turquoise shine for a duller, blander blue.
Pre-opened on March 15, the full potential of The Grand at Moon Palace is already clear. Even if everything is not yet functional, and the vegetation is still growing, it’s clear that Palace Resorts perfectly meets the desire to offer high standards of luxury in all-inclusive.
The Grand is, therefore, for families what the Le Blanc Spa & Resort is for adults only: uncompromising luxury.
This trip was made at the invitation of Palace Resorts.
