Four of the eleven renovated properties in Cayo Largo del Sur – a small island off of Cuba’s southern coast – will open their doors on Nov. 4, 2022, according to Blue Diamond Resorts, the hotel management division of Sunwing Travel Group.

As announced earlier this year, the hotel company has been granted exclusive rights by the Cuban government to run the destination’s entire hotel inventory – 11 properties, totalling 1,348 rooms – for the Canadian market as part of 10-year agreement.

Offering a wide array of hospitality concepts including both entertainment and revamped rooms, Memories Cayo Largo, Starfish Cayo Largo, and The Villas Linda Mar and Marina will be the first hotels welcoming guests to the destination.

"This is the first step of a major turnaround in the hospitality industry in this region, confirming the strength of Blue Diamond Resorts Cuba and the destination as a unique vacation getaway" said Mohamad Fawzi, managing director for Blue Diamond Resorts Cuba. "This project will offer a total of 1,348 rooms, including four all-inclusive resorts and a group of seven unique and individual villas that will open in stages, ready for the winter.”

While Starfish Cayo Largo will offer 307 comfortable rooms, 5 dining options, swimming pools for both adults and children, baby club, as well as other amenities for the enjoyment and relaxation of its guests.

Villa Linda Mar and Villa Marina are two cozy properties where guests of all ages can unwind in the privacy of cabins or bungalows.

Just a few minutes from the airport and very close to recreational and cultural centres, The Villas are the ideal option for a peaceful family vacation.

Blue Diamond Resorts Cuba will be announcing the opening of the additional properties within the touristic destination of Cayo Largo del Sur as and when they meet the highest required standards.

The small resorts and villa-like hotels on Cayo Largo – known for its long, unspoiled beach, prime snorkeling and diving areas and sea turtle conservation centre – are set up for all kinds of audiences, from families to adults-only crowds to LGBT+ travellers to even nudists.

“It’s a boutique destination,” Eric Rodriguez, executive vice-president of partnership development at Sunwing Travel Group, told PAX last June, speaking on the idyllic coral island, which is also a leader in sustainability. (Electric cars only, no plastic allowed. There’s even sustainable water developments).

“It’s not Varadero. It’s not Holguín. It’s not Cayo Santa Maria. It’s a small destination with different hotels for different market segments," Rodriguez said.
