Club Med to open new Japan ski resort

Club Med has announced it will launch a new Japan ski resort, Club Med Kiroro Grand, this December in Hokkaido.

The new property will join the brand’s 20 other mountain resorts located throughout the Alps, Canada, and Asia.

Set in one of Japan’s top ski destinations, the resort is described as offering an “untouched mountain” featuring “white powder snow and unique ski trails.”

WIth 160 days of winter, the resort will offer spring skiing until May, along with night and off-piste skiing with new trails.

The resort also provides easy access to nearby destinations like Otaru, a coastal town known for its glasswork and sake and beer distilleries. 

The surrounding region gives guests the opportunity to learn about Hokkaido’s Ainu heritage.

Design inspired by the landscape

Inspired by the scenery of the Kiroro region's natural landscape, the 266-room resort is designed with an enchanted forest theme with natural finishes and traditional Japanese influences throughout.

The resort features 23 courses for all levels and off-piste ski slopes across the Asari and Nagamine mountains.

Included in the stay, travellers will enjoy unlimited ski-in and ski-out access, lift passes, as well as group ski and snowboard lessons tailored to all ages and skill levels.

Other resort activities include yoga, cardio training, and digital darts. The resort also caters to families and children with dedicated Children's Clubs for kids ages 2-17.

Apres-ski activities include the brand's first traditional Japanese onsen featuring a dedicated wellness lounge with a sauna and a hot stone room.

Other on-site amenities include Japanese-inspired restaurants, a spa, and an indoor swimming pool.

Additionally, Club Med Kiroro Grand is a 3-minute gondola ride from its sister resort, Club Med Kiroro Peak.

Ambitious development plans

As Club Med continues to move forward with its ambitious development plans worldwide, the brand plans to expand its portfolio with three to five openings or renovations per year, including a U.S. mountain resort targeted to open in 2-3 years, as well as a new resort in the Caribbean in the near future.

The brand has announced plans to renovate its flagship property, Club Med Punta Cana, with updates including a restaurant refresh, new and renovated family rooms, a new destination wedding venue, and the addition of a beauty salon. 

Club Med Buccaneer's Creek, located in Martinique, is also set to be undergo extensive renovations this year to revamp its rooms, reception area, main restaurant, and bar.
