Starting July 5, Canada's quarantine measures will discontinue for fully vaccinated Canadians and permanent residents who travel abroad,
But not everyone will be able to take advantage of this new-found freedom – because there are no COVID-19 vaccines approved for children under 12, families with young children still face several barriers when it comes to international travel.
While unvaccinated children with fully vaccinated parents will be able to skip hotel quarantine, they must still self-isolate at home for 14 full days upon returning home to Canada, officials say.
“At this point, there aren’t vaccines we’re delivering that are approved for kids under 12,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told media on June 18. “We’re hoping this will change by the end of the summer.”
While the next phase of easing travel measures in Canada may not apply to young children, a future phase will, and for travel advisors, it's never too late to bone up on the latest family offerings.
