All of RIU’s destinations are now back in action with the reopening of the hotel Riu Sri Lanka.

The Hotel Riu Sri Lanka, which was the first hotel opened by the chain in Asia back in 2016, is reopening its doors on Dec. 3 after a 20-month closure.

“This is great news for the chain, as it is the last destination to get back up and running after the standstill caused by the pandemic,” RIU said in a statement on Thursday (Dec. 2). “With just a few weeks to go before the end of the year, RIU Hotels & Resorts is once again operating in the 20 countries where it is present, thereby reaching its goal of recovering as many employees and customers as possible worldwide.”

Luis Riu, CEO of RIU, said the reopening “is something to celebrate and be proud of.”

“Our amazing team at RIU has managed to turn our drive to recover and overcome these challenges into a reality,” Riu said. “From today, all staff at the Riu Sri Lanka will once again be ready and raring to welcome guests back through its doors, with their characteristic smile and kindness.”

The 501-room Riu Sri Lanka was inaugurated in 2016 in Ahungalla, a beautiful coastal town in the south west of the country.

RIU says it is reopening with the “utmost safety and hygiene guarantees, as all staff are fully vaccinated and have received the necessary training to apply our reinforced protocols.”
