Air Canada Vacations recently organized a megafam for 120 travel agents from Quebec and New Brunswick to Cayo Coco, Cuba. About 60 of them were staying in various hotels in Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo, two islands of the Jardines del Rey archipelago, located less than 30 minutes from the airport of the same name.
"The purpose of this trip is to allow agents to meet hoteliers and explain the Cuban reality, which is very different from that of the rest of the Caribbean," said Guy Marchand, manager for Canada, ACV. Cayo Coco is a destination where there has been a hotel boom in recent years, especially in the area of the cays. If travellers went to Cuba 15 years ago, it is high time to come back and see the difference."
Here are some of the hotels visited during this megafam:
Pullman Cayo Coco
The 522-room, 4-star hotel has a family section with deluxe rooms and an adults-section with suites and junior suites. Conveniently located about 15 minutes from the airport, the all-inclusive is appreciated for the incredible view from its lobby on the turquoise sea, the proximity of the beach, its six swimming pools and its varied culinary offerings with its seven restaurants and eight bars.
Sercotel Club Cayo Guillermo
This three-star property is ideal due to its value. With 324 rooms (mainly bungalow), it is perfect for family holidays. The hotel offers equipment rental for kitesurfing, and offers courses directly on the property.
Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo
This property, relatively newer, can hold services for large weddings for up to 200 people. This four-star, 500-room hotel has three infinity pools, four international restaurants, and six bars. There is only one adults-only section available.
Iberostar Playa Pilar
It is popular for its proximity (one kilometre) to the most beautiful beach in the region of the same name and for its lovely seaside promenade. There are five swimming pools, a small water park and kids' club, four a la carte restaurants, and five bars including a disco. It should be noted that within a few months, the Iberostar chain will serve fresh products (lettuce, strawberries, oranges, etc.) thanks to an exclusive import agreement, bringing its culinary offer to a higher level.
Meliá Cayo Coco
This all-inclusive four-and-a-half-adults-only has only 250 rooms. It stands out with its large gardens, suites and superior rooms built on stilts in a saltwater lagoon. There is a pool, a buffet, three a la carte restaurants and six bars.
Playa Coco Hotel
The establishment has everything you need to please the children. There is a lot of entertainment, floaties, and an ice cream bar. Its 307 rooms are spacious, making them perfect for will families. A total of five restaurants, seven bars and two pools are available on the property.
