Virgin Voyages cruise terminal coming to Miami

Virgin Voyages today unveiled plans to build a new cruise terminal at PortMiami, slated for completion by November 2021, while bookings for the line’s inaugural season will open for sale in early 2019.

The terminal, revealed a press event in Miami earlier today, will be located on the northwest side of the port and, pending the Board of County Commission’s approval of the MOU for construction of a new cruise facility, construction on the project will start next year with projected completion date of November 2021.

The new 100,000 square foot terminal will be a palm grove inspired design concept developed by the Miami-based designers from Arquitectonica. The terminal’s rooftop is designed to resemble a palm tree grove with rooftop pockets that allow natural light to flow into the building by day, and uplighting by night that will light up the company’s iconic Virgin Voyages red logo. The two-storey storm-proof glass facility will be replete with lush landscaping giving the terminal a plaza-like feel with designated areas for drop-offs of VIPs, ride-sharing and provisioning, designed to provide a seamless shore to ship experience.

“Miami is an incredible city and one of my favorite places to work and play,” said Virgin founder Sir Richard Branson. “From our headquarters for Virgin Hotels, Virgin Voyages and now Virgin Trains USA, South Florida has quickly become another home for Virgin brands in the leisure travel sector.”

Bookings open

Booking details for Virgin’s inaugural 2020 season were also revealed, opening on Feb. 14, 2019 for the general public and Feb. 5 for those currently holding pre-sale deposits.

Virgin Voyages also announced that its first ship, the Scarlet Lady, will continue to sail to the Caribbean from Miami throughout 2021. The company’s second ship will sail from Miami during the fall/winter cruise season of 2021/22.
