Starting this September, guests sailing with Princess Cruises on select ships will be able to bid on an upgrade to their cabin, whether it be to an oceanview, balcony, deluxe balcony, mini-suite or full suite, depending on their budget.
The new bidding program will kick off Sept. 6.
“Upgrading is a popular request from our guests and we’re pleased to deliver a process that lets them improve their stateroom category by making an offer that fits their budget and lifestyle,” said Princess President John Padgett in a statement.
The program, at first, will be limited to five ships sailing from the U.S. – this being Discovery Princess, Enchanted Princess, Regal Princess, Ruby Princess, and Caribbean Princess.
By the end of October, Princess says it will implement the program fleetwide.
As for how it works, customers will receive an email invitation to participate and be invited to bid on staterooms above their present booking category.
The notification will be sent to guests 21 or older once the cruise is at least five days within the final payment period and has been paid in full.
Bids are priced per person, based on two occupants per stateroom for the length of the cruise.
Third and fourth booked guests in a stateroom will be upgraded without an added cost.
If a bid is accepted, guests will be notified by email and be charged for the additional amount.
If the bid is not accepted, guests will keep their originally booked room without an increased cost.
If a guest has a change of heart in the beginning stages of the bidding, they will be able to update or cancel their bid, but once accepted, the bid will be confirmed and cannot be modified.
Once the bidding process is complete, Princess will update the booking on the guest’s behalf and notify all applicable cruises.
