Celestyal Journey departs on maiden Aegean voyage, unveils upgrade offer

Last weekend saw Celestyal Journey set sail on her maiden voyage around the Aegean. 

Departing from Piraeus, Athens on Sept. 2, Celestyal Journey’s first guests are currently enjoying her inaugural seven-night “Idyllic Aegean” itinerary, continuing the company’s ethos of immersing guests into destinations, visiting Thessaloniki, Kusadasi, Heraklion (Crete), Santorini, Mykonos, and Milos.

Celestyal Journey "signals a new and exciting chapter in our offering as we continue to invest into our fleet, aligning the company’s vision to offer a new premium stay-in-style and experience-rich cruise offering to the Greek islands and Eastern Mediterranean," said Celestyal’s Chief Commercial Officer, Lee Haslett, who said the initial reactions have been "fantastic."

Celestyal Journey recently completed an extensive $21 million-dollar (USD) refurbishment and maintenance overhaul. The ship was originally built as the Ryndam for Holland America Line and, more recently, was operating for P&O Australia. 

The newly-acquired vessel is named after themes of exploration, discovery and progress. 

"The Journey embodies a spirit of ambition and adventure and a desire to take her guests further and get closer to the destinations she visits," the Greece-based Celestyal Cruises noted last March. 

Upgrade offer 

To celebrate its inaugural voyage and to showcase the substantially increased premium balcony capacity onboard, Celestyal is extending its special promotion of a complimentary suite upgrade on all Journey bookings (the generous superior suite upgrade will be applied to all XD, SJA,SJB bookings made during this time) made by Oct. 31, for travel for the rest of the year. 

This includes the seven-night, ‘Three Continents’ itinerary which commences on the new ship from October 21, and the special 11, 18 and 19-night festive sailings departing in December (on December 16 for the 11- and 19-night sailing, and December 9 for the 18-night sailing, respectively).
