Bermuda is bouncing back after being struck by Hurricane Gonzalo, which hit the island late last week.
Gonzalo struck Berumda as a Category 2 storm on Friday (down from a Category 4 as it approached the island), damaging trees and buildings and closing several roads with debris. Only minor injuries and no deaths were reported. The island was hit by Tropical Storm Fay just a week prior.
Port-of-calls for cruise ships were cancelled today as the island cleaned up. As of Sunday evening, Bermuda International Airport had reopened.
Gonzalo also passed by Canada’s east coast as a Category 1 storm, soaking the southern and eastern shores of Newfoundland as it travelled into the Atlantic.
Meanwhile in the Pacific, Hurricane Ana was downgraded to a tropical storm as it neared Hawaii, hitting the island of Oahu with heavy rain and minor flooding.
