Canadian singing and songwriting legend Jann Arden has been named by Avalon Waterways as the company’s newest godmother, christening the Avalon Tranquility II at a ceremony in Strasbourg, France set for April 2, 2015.
During the ceremony, Arden will smash the traditional bottle of champagne against the ship’s hull, make a speech to christen the ship and convey her best wishes to all the crew as well as present and future passengers. After the christening, the Tranquility II will sail itineraries through Holland, France, Germany and Switzerland.
Stephanie Bishop, managing director of Avalon Waterways for Canada, noted that “this christening will be an all-Canadian event with all guests on board coming from Canada including media and travel industry representatives.”
The Panorama-class Tranquility II will join 14 other Avalon ships sailing the rivers of Europe and will accommodate 128 passengers in contemporary comfort.
Alberta-born Arden has released 12 albums with 19 top ten singles, is an eight-time Juno award winner and a proud recipient of a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame. She is also an author of note and a broadcaster.
