The team at Let's Get Uncomfortable (LGU) is hosting its next online event, "Confronting Anti-Black Racism in Travel & Tourism: One Year Later," on June 15 at 4:30 p.m. ET / 1:30 p.m. PT.

Since summer of 2020, LGU panel discussions have addressed the realities of anti-Black racism in travel and tourism, sharing steps that professionals and organizations can take to prioritize diversity, inclusion and anti-racist practices.

The travel industry is among those being taken to task for its lack of diversity, with calls to commit to anti-racist practices from various media outlets and to demonstrate “true allyship” by organizations such as the Black Travel Alliance.

In this next segment, LGU's Shalene Dudley, founder of Latitude Concierge Travels and co-founder of UNPACK Consulting, will sit down with three travel professionals to discuss their personal journeys with this movement, how—or whether—industry perspectives have changed in the past 12 months, and where we go from here.

What has changed in tourism? Are workplaces, marketing campaigns and boardrooms any different? What’s been done to address anti-Black racism—other than the infamous black square?

Together with Veranda Adkins, co-founder of Association of Black Travel Professionals, Elizabeth Buchanan, founder of Paradise Weddings and Linda Kelly of Flight Centre, Shalene will call in areas of the industry that have stepped up—and those who have stayed silent—during a one-hour conversation about the role anti-racism will play in the future of travel and tourism.

The discussion will be followed by a 30-minute Q&A session, whereby participants will have the chance to ask Shalene, Veranda, Elizabeth and Linda questions.

"Confronting Anti-Black Racism in Travel & Tourism: One Year Later" takes place on June 15 at 4:30 p.m. ET / 1:30 p.m. PT.
