Canada-U.S. border closure extended to Nov. 21

The Canada-U.S. border will remain closed to non-essential travel until Nov. 21, Canada's Public Safety Minister Bill Blair announced on his Twitter account Monday morning (Oct. 19).

"Our decisions will continue to be based on the best public health advice available to keep Canadians safe," Blair tweeted about agreement, which was set to expire this Wednesday (Oct. 21). 

The mutual ban on non-essential travel between Canada and the U.S. has been extended several times, for 30 days at a time. 

The order was first introduced on March 21. 

This latest update will mark the seventh renewal of the Canada-U.S. border restrictions since the COVID-19 pandemic was first declared.

Despite the land border between the two countries being closed, Canadians can, however, still fly to U.S. destinations.  

The border has also allowed for the continued flow of goods and essential services.
