WestJet considering additional seating?

An extra row of seating may be coming to WestJet’s fleet of Boeing 737s in the near future, following the installation of a new entertainment system and seats featuring additional legroom.

According to reports, the carrier is considering the addition of six extra seats per plane, which would take place following the installation of a WiFi-equipped entertainment system, featuring new slim-line seats offering additional legroom – a feature that may be compromised should the carrier opt to add the extra seating. The entertainment system is being installed across the fleet in phases through 2015 and 2016.

In addition to its third-quarter results announced yesterday, WestJet also posted its October 2014 load factor results, during which 1.6 million passengers flew with the carrier, representing a six per cent year-over-year increase.
