Over a lunch of authentic Mexican cuisine, travel partners joined the Aeromexico team to celebrate the airline’s new non-stop flight to Mexico City from Toronto, a service that was announced in late 2014 and is scheduled to begin on May 4, 2015.
“Canada has become an important market to Aeromexico,” Claudia Gonzalez, director of sales, East Coast and Canada, told PAXnews.com. “Industry is booming here and in Mexico, and we believe it’s a great opportunity to provide additional service to the corporate sector.”
Aeromexico’s new service is part of an effort to bring Canadians to more inland destinations in Mexico, something Ivan Vukov, market manager for Aeromexico, touched upon in an address to guests.
“1.7 million Canadians went to Mexico last year,” he said, before announcing that there are currently plans in place for a route to Vancouver as well, although further details were not yet available.
Mauricio Toussaint, the Consular General of Mexico was also in attendance, taking a few moments to convey his hopes the route will encourage citizens of Mexico to visit Toronto more often.
“We look forward to developing more relationships between Mexico and Toronto,” he said.
Gonzalez made a point to say that being the largest airline in Mexico, Aeromexico’s potential for growth is also about connecting many countries, using Mexico City as a hub.
“A lot of people associate us with Mexico, but the fact is, we’re a global airline,” she told PAXnews.com. “Expansion in Canada and Latin America is key for us, because there are a lot of big Peruvian, Columbian, and Guatemalan communities in Canada. We are in a privileged position where we can connect people to many places beyond simply tourist destinations in Latin America.”
The event concluded with a draw for a 4 night stay in Puerto Vallarta, with roundtrip airfare provided by Aeromexico.
The route, beginning on May 4, will be operated with Boeing 737-700 aircraft, and will depart Toronto’s Pearson Airport at 8:30 a.m.
