Virtuoso held a networking event for its Canadian travel agency members, advisors and preferred partners at the DOUGLAS, Autograph Collection hotel in Vancouver last week.
With 56 advisors and 45 partners in attendance, On Tour Vancouver was another in a series of events across Canada offering Virtuoso members and suppliers the opportunity to reconnect, establish new, advantageous relationships and partake in professional development courses that will help them advance their business.
With attendees stating that they feel optimistic, hopeful and excited for what’s to come in 2022, Virtuoso set the stage for travel’s recovery by doing what it does best: fostering genuine human connections needed to bolster both sales and spirits while emphasizing the power of partnerships.
“The goal was to refresh and recharge for the anticipated busy travelling season ahead,” the company said in a release.
An intimate event that allowed for more personal interaction, On Tour Vancouver featured one-to-one networking appointments, numerous professional development courses and thought-provoking discussions concerning traveller trends and industry insights.
Virtuoso attributed the health of future bookings as a reason to be bullish and shared the results of its February 2022 poll showing that 71 per cent of travellers had already booked travel for 2022 and 86 per cent planned on travelling internationally.
General Manager, Canada Úna O’Leary spoke about Canada’s outbound and domestic growth, which saw a major boost as restrictions eased in March 2022 – O’Leary reported that March 2022 booking sales were 102 percent of what Virtuoso saw in March of 2019.
These positive global projections indicate that Canada may significantly outpace pre-pandemic numbers, Virtuoso said.
O’Leary also reported web traffic to the network’s website, Virtuoso.com, is up 32 percent over 2019 levels and page views have doubled.
“Consumers are browsing and engaging with content, signalling a desire to plan travel,” said O’Leary.
Virtuoso also saw a 50 per cent increase in consumers seeking out travel advisors through its virtuoso.com website, reaffirming the value of travel advisors coming out of the pandemic, where trusted guidance, current knowledge, personalized service and customized travel plans are incredibly important to the luxury leisure traveller.
Additional insights revealed at the event included: 76 per cent of Virtuoso advisors specializing in exclusive excursion have seen a recent increase in ultra-luxe travel, making up for lost time and missed milestones have become a priority and multi-generational travel continues to drive family gatherings, with Mexico and Caribbean islands holding the top spots for preferred destinations.
